The recent push to bring back estrogenic HRT for menopausal women may go down as one of the biggest medical mistakes ever made. Over the last 10+ years there has been a consistent push from Big Pharma to denigrate the findings of the extensive and very well-designed WHI studies. Those studies unequivocally found that estrogen is a causal factor in many serious conditions in women, including heart disease, cancer and Alzheimer’s. However, those findings have been relentlessly attacked ever since the WHI findings came out and recently the FDA removed the warnings about estrogen causing cancer and encouraged doctors to consider restarting estrogenic HRT for their female patients. The study below discovered that women on HRT have a much higher incidence of thyroid cancer and that it is specifically estrogen that is the likely causal factor.
Study Finds Women’s Thyroid Cancer Risk May Be Tied to Reproductive Lifespan and Hormone Therapy
“…Moreover, exogenous hormone exposure through hormone replacement therapy (HRT) further amplified thyroid cancer risk, with a pronounced effect observed among women who underwent HRT for five years or longer. These findings illuminate the potentially carcinogenic role of prolonged estrogenic stimulation in thyroid cells, lending biological plausibility to the epidemiological associations documented.”
“…Estrogens have been shown in preclinical models to modulate thyroid follicular cell proliferation and influence signaling pathways implicated in cell growth and apoptotic resistance. The interplay between estrogen receptors and oncogenic signaling cascades in thyroid tissue might be pivotal in fostering neoplastic transformation, especially under conditions of sustained hormonal exposure.”
