The study below used the same rationale and demonstrated that intranasal administration of NAD reversed anosmia (loss of sense of smell) in the experimental animals. The study used pre-formed NAD+ but given that it is unstable and that the prior study noted niacnamide as eye drops also worked, I think the same statement can be made about anosmia as well. Niacinamide dissolves very well in water (much better then NAD) and is stable (unlike NAD), in both solution and in solid form.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s12276-026-01761-9\">https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s12276-026-01761-9<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;&#8230;In this study, we explored the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>therapeutic efficacy of NAD in olfactory dysfunction. Our results demonstrated that i.n. administration of NAD significantly improved olfactory function<\/strong><\/span>. This improvement was accompanied by enhanced neurogenesis and maturation of OSNs, as evidenced by behavioral tests and histological analyses. These findings are consistent with previous studies that highlighted the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>neuroprotective and neuroregenerative properties of NAD in various neurodegenerative disease models<\/strong><\/span><sup><a id=\"ref-link-section-d53492315e1821\" title=\"Hou, Y. et al. NAD(+) supplementation normalizes key Alzheimer\u2019s features and DNA damage responses in a new AD mouse model with introduced DNA repair deficiency. Proc. Natl Acad. Sci. Intranasal administration with NAD+ profoundly decreases brain injury in a rat model of transient focal ischemia. Front. Biosci. 12, 2728\u20132734 (2007).\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s12276-026-01761-9#ref-CR36\" data-track=\"click\" data-track-action=\"reference anchor\" data-track-label=\"link\" data-test=\"citation-ref\" aria-label=\"Reference 36\">36<\/a><\/sup>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;&#8230;In conclusion, this study provides promising results for the potential use of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000; text-decoration: underline;\">NAD<\/span> as a therapeutic agent to treat olfactory dysfunction by comprehensively analyzing <span style=\"color: #ff0000; text-decoration: underline;\">its remarkable effects<\/span> on in vitro neuronal differentiation in hOSCs and olfactory function, histology, and gene expression<\/strong><\/span>, using an anosmia mouse model. NAD may promote neurogenesis and maturation of OSNs and restore olfactory function by activating genes involved in synaptic transmission and neuronal survival, such as\u00a0<i>DLGAP2<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0<i>PCDH17<\/i>.
