With chronic (over)usage social media can activate the serotonergic system and slowly turn most people into autistic psychopaths, who are much more willing to turn on each other than fight the elite that rules over all of us.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.liebertpub.com\/doi\/10.1089\/cyber.2021.0324\">https:\/\/www.liebertpub.com\/doi\/10.1089\/cyber.2021.0324<\/a><\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/theswaddle.com\/even-a-week-long-break-from-social-media-can-reduce-anxiety-depression-study-finds\/<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;&#8230;\u201cSocial media detox\u201d is a buzzword we\u2019ve come across far too often; many of us have, perhaps, jumped on this bandwagon too. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>According to a new study, taking the \u201cdetox\u201d-route isn\u2019t just a\u00a0<em>faux\u00a0<\/em>wellness fad. Turns out, it is scientifically proven to promote our wellbeing and reduce the depression and anxiety<\/strong><\/span> many of us have learned to live with post-2020. Published in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.liebertpub.com\/doi\/10.1089\/cyber.2021.0324\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"><em>Cyberpsychology, Behavior, and Social Networking<\/em><\/a>, the study based its findings on an analysis of the social media behaviors of 154 participants aged between 18 and 72, who reported spending an average of eight hours every week on social media. They were divided into two groups \u2014 one that took a week-long break from social media, and one that didn\u2019t. Prior to the division, the researchers assessed their mental health. After the experiment concluded, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>the participants who had abstained from social media noticed significant improvements in anxiety, depression, and general mental wellbeing. On the other hand, the group that had continued using social media, as usual, didn\u2019t experience any comparable positive outcomes<\/strong><\/span>. \u201cMany of our participants reported positive effects from being off social media with improved mood and less anxiety overall\u2026 This suggests that <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>even just a small break can have an impact<\/strong><\/span>,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.webmd.com\/depression\/news\/20220506\/one-week-social-media-break-reduces-anxiety-depression\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">said<\/a>\u00a0Jeffrey Lambert, first author of the study, and lecturer in health and exercise psychology at the University of\u00a0Bath.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;&#8230;<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Explaining how social media is anxiety-inducing and taking a break from it can be helpful, it adds, \u201cSocial media is a way for people to prove how successful, pretty, likable, or confident they are, and sometimes that creates competition in terms of how many likes, views, or comments they get. This situation can lead to constant posting, checking, and\u2026 worrying<\/strong><\/span>.
