As a result, all kinds of absurd explanations are given including &#8220;genetic incompatibility&#8221; of partners, mental disorders, &#8220;addiction&#8221; and\/or substance abuse, etc. As it turns out, it may be simply a progesterone deficiency, and giving those women progesterone as a supplement stops the vicious cycle of repeated miscarriages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/life-style\/miscarriage-hormone-progesterone-pregnancy-loss-study-birmingham-a8906396.html\">https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/life-style\/miscarriage-hormone-progesterone-pregnancy-loss-study-birmingham-a8906396.html<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;&#8230;<strong>Giving\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/pregnant\"><strong>pregnant<\/strong><\/a><strong>\u00a0women who have previously had a\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/miscarriage\"><strong>miscarriage<\/strong><\/a><strong>\u00a0an additional dose of\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/progesterone\"><strong>progesterone<\/strong><\/a><strong>\u00a0could improve their chances of having a\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/baby\"><strong>baby<\/strong><\/a>, a new study suggests.\u00a0According to the\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gloshospitals.nhs.uk\/our-services\/services-we-offer\/pathology\/tests-and-investigations\/progesterone\/\" target=\"_blank\">NHS<\/a>, progesterone is produced naturally in the female body and is used as a marker of ovulation in the investigation of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/infertility\">infertility<\/a>. It also plays an important role in the menstrual cycle and in maintaining the early stages of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/Pregnancy\">pregnancy<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;&#8230;What\u2019s more, of 137 women with three or more previous miscarriages, 98 (72 per cent) went on to have a live birth, compared with 57 per cent (85 out of 148) of women in the placebo group. <strong>While the study did not show that progesterone could help all women who suffered early pregnancy bleeding, it was found to be beneficial to those who had suffered miscarriages<\/strong>. Arri Coomarasamy, professor of gynaecology at the University of Birmingham, says <strong>the findings will have huge implications for practice<\/strong>.  \u201cThis treatment could save thousands of babies who may have otherwise been lost to a miscarriage,\u201d Coomarasamy says. \u201dWe hope that this evidence will be considered by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (Nice) and that it will be used to update national guidelines for women at risk of miscarriage.\u201c Jane Brewin, chief executive of the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tommys.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tommy&#8217;s<\/a> \u2013 the largest charity funding research into the causes of miscarriage, stillbirth and premature birth \u2013 adds: \u201dThe results from this study are important for parents who have experienced miscarriage &#8211; <strong>they now have a robust and effective treatment option which will save many lives and prevent much heartache<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;&#8230;According to&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tommys.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tommy\u2019s<\/a>, one in 100 women experience recurrent miscarriage, which is defined as three or more miscarriages in a row.
